The Wichita Downtown Lions Club

Miles LaSater and George Cuningham organized the Wichita Downtown Lions Club on December 4, 1919, with 40 members.  Our club has had the unique pleasure of being the home club of three international presidents; Charles H. Hatton, 1932-1933, Claude M. DeVorss, 1964-1965, and Dr. William H. Wunder, 1995-1996.

Our current membership includes men and women of all ages.  You'll also find members from a wide variety of professions including doctors, lawyers, bankers, university professors, small business owners, city-county-government employees, realtors, educators, judges, pastors, optometrists, chiropractors, CPA's, retirees, and many more.

The International Association of Lions Clubs, of which the Wichita Downtown Lions Club is a member, was organized in October, 1917, in Dallas, Texas.  Today there are 1,368,683 members in 45,502 clubs and 738 districts in 190 countries and geographical areas. .

For 48 years the Wichita Downtown Lions Club has held an annual Pancake Day, serving over 5,500 people and earning $20,000 for the Club's benevolent activities.

We also sponsor a Country Bash.  The success of our Country Bash can be measured both in financial terms and in the faces of the campers who use the facility.  The work our children will inherit will be one with many challenges.  Our goal is to help the children of today turn into the adults of tomorrow.

On other occasions, the Club also works with the Salvation Army at Christmas time for Bell Ringers and selling food court tickets at the River Festival.
